What's the value of coaches?
With everything being discoverable and figureoutable with the internet. What's the value of coaches?
Unless you've been stuck in a cave for the last 15 years with no access to a phone and the internet, you've seen it.
Scroll on Instagram, and you'll find "coaches" promising you the riches of the world – the cars, the lifestyle, the freedom. All you have to do is buy their course or join their mentorship program.
I thought a lot of this when I sat down to speak with Chun Yan, a business coach who helps fitness trainers grow their income.
With everything being discoverable and figureoutable on the internet. What's the actual value of coaches? Are they a scam? Should you get a coach?
The true role of a coach
Here's one question I've had for a long time.
"If information has never been more accessible, why are more people feeling stuck than ever before?"
Here's the truth: Any decent coach is not telling you anything you don't already know.
Think about that.
So, what are you actually paying for?
Accountability is one, sure. But hire a swimming coach, and at some point, you're going to have to look them in the eye and admit you didn't practice. Didn't sleep or eat right.
And they're going to call you on it.
Here's the thing. An expensive coach isn't automatically better at this than a cheap one.
So, what separates a great coach from an average one?
A great coach is focused enough to really see you.
Most of us "perform". We put up a front. A version that makes us look better than we are. We rationalize. And tell ourselves stories.
A great coach sees past that. And you know they see past it.
The moment that happens, the front drops. You stop wasting time & energy managing how you look, and start doing the actual work.
That's the value of a coach. Someone who sees through your excuses so clearly. That keeping your excuses up becomes more tiring than just fixing the problem.
Workshop: Understand what's affecting your sales
I'm running a practical sales workshop session with Steve Wee – someone who has spent 2 decades in communication. 12 years in the airline industry and 12 years in networking.

Most sales training gives you scripts and closing techniques.
Steve does something different. He helps you see your own sales conversations clearly, figuring out parts you're killing trust and what to do about it.
And it doesn't stop at the end of the workshop. Steve will be sharing an accountability app called Trust Intelligence, which helps you improve your sales skills on a daily basis.
If you do sales or talk to people. You gotta check out this event.
