Uncovering the model of an online business coach
Coaching scales differently. Here’s how Chun Yan does it...

Look, I’m skeptical about online business coaches.
I believe in doing.
In a classroom, the one who learns the most is the teacher. If you want to learn something well, “teach” it. It forces you to learn it well enough. Go build a business. Start a project. That’s how you learn.
But casting my judgments aside, here’s what I've learnt about coaches.
- A coach is not a consultant. A consultant is someone with experience you want to tap into. For example, if you need some help with taxation, you’d hire a tax consultant. A coach helps individuals develop their skills, mindset, and performance through self-discovery and action planning.
- A coach helps you see blind spots. Sometimes, it’s hard to see from inside the bottle. A coach doesn’t have or give you all the answers. They ask the right questions, and most of the time, you uncover answers on your own.
- Coaching scales differently. I guess the biggest reason why people want to become a coach is that coaches don’t trade time for money. They build systems and frameworks that can be replicated across multiple clients.
That’s why we have legendary coaches like John Wooden, creating frameworks like the Pyramid of Success.
That’s why online coaches like Chun Yan can charge RM40,000 per pop for a coaching program.
