Most businesses are messy

Behind every “polished” brand is a cluttered back room, late invoices, teams putting out fires every day, and duct-tape systems. And that's okay.

Most businesses are messy

My car battery died.

Being a savvy guy, I removed the battery, put it in my other car, and drove to a car accessory shop to buy a new one.

When I first saw the shop, I thought, "Wow, this shop is one huge mess."

Boxes stacked to the ceiling. Car batteries all over the stairs. No sign of computers or tech. Handwritten receipts. Old posters and some people who clearly have been doing this for decades.

Then I watched him work.

Somehow magically, he could locate the exact battery I wanted in that mess. Told me the price without referring to a pricelist.

You would think a traditional business like this would die – given how technologically advanced young startups are.

Yet, here they are. Still making sales. Still serving customers.

Was it perfect? Not at all. But neither is your business.

And that's okay.

The truth is most businesses are messy behind the scenes. They look polished outside. Great looking site. Perfect team photos. But having worked with many teams, I can tell you it's usually one big mess.

But what matters isn't how tidy and tight things look. It's whether your marketing is doing its job:

  • Getting you found
  • Bringing in leads - systematically
  • And converting sales

No amount of "clean" will fix a business no one knows about.
