Marketers ruin everything
Remember the time you were excited to open an email? Well, not anymore. We have officially ruined everything.

I was on a panel session yesterday in an event for marketers.
Have you ever Googled the definition of a marketer? Here it is:

Ohhh, no wonder everyone seems to be pitching something to me!
Said hello to a guy, and pretended I was interested as I stood silently, listening to how amazing his app is – what it does, how many clients they’ve signed, how many years they’ve been in the market, where are they expanding to, what their clients say about them…
Well, I think marketers are not just promoters.
As Seth Godin puts it, marketers create change. So it’s time I end this marketing disease – and stop marketers from ruining everything:
1. When writing ads
Old mindset: “How do I get people to click and buy?”
Generous mindset: “How can I give someone clarity/solution, even if they don’t buy?”
2. When doing email marketing
Old mindset: “Blast promotions and get sales”
Generous mindset: “Every email should teach, inspire, or guide – even if there’s no sale.”
3. When posting on social media
Old mindset: “Post to get followers, engagement, clicks – and sales!”
Generous mindset: “Post to make someone’s day better, clearer and easier.”
4. When in networking events
Old mindset: “How many contacts can I collect today?”
Generous mindset: “How many people can I offer help to today?”
5. When working with clients
Old mindset: “How do I keep them paying?”
Generous mindset: “How do I make them so successful they want to keep paying?”
6. Optimize landing pages
Old mindset: “What can I do to make them click buy?”
Generous mindset: “Test variations to discover what truly resonates with and helps my audience.”
Marketing isn’t manipulation.
Stop acting like a manipulator, trying to get somebody to buy something they don’t need. Marketing will be better if we all are human.
