You've probably heard about "lead magnets" if you've done marketing.

Maybe a guru or agency you're working with has recommended you to create a free lead magnet to attract prospects and build an email list.

Lead magnets are kinda dead...

What happens after someone signs up for the free lead magnet above?

First, they'll receive a bunch of emails. Then maybe a request to get into a free call. Before they know it, the relationship quickly goes from "Hey, here's a free guide/template..." to "OK, GIMME MONEY NOW"

Lead magnets were effective when they first appeared.

  • Free webinars converted well.
  • Free video masterclasses converted a plenty.
  • Free trials.
  • Book a free call.
  • Free seminars.

You get the idea.

However, lead magnets have become less effective over the years.

Here's why.

The reason is that the success of the free lead magnet model relied on how well the marketer hides the sales process. When prospects are unaware of the sales procees, they become unguarded.

But it's 2025 now. Consumers have gotten a lot smarter.

Today they see a free masterclass, seminar, webinar or e-book and say –"This isn't really free, is it?"

Once you see this, the solution is really simple.

There is less resistance when the sales process is obvious and prospects know you're providing a solution that you're charging for.

Instead of a free lead magnet, go for a "low-ticket" offer model.

Here's one example I recently stumbled upon:

While positioned as "Free". You have to pay RM5 for "shipping".

There will be upsells. And you'll be subscribed to a plan.

But the difference is customers can see the sales process. It's also a lot more honest.

Plus, two benefits when you shift to a low-ticket offer model.

  1. You attract paying customers.
  2. You self-liquidate by breaking even or making a small profit. (Essentially that means, getting clients for "Free")

Lead magnets are going out the door, fast.

Customers are smart and will put up a huge guard when they know you're attempting to hide the sales process.
