Nobody liked Superman
When he first appeared…

Watched Superman at the cinema?
Did you know that when Superman first showed up in comics, people didn’t like him?
He was too perfect. He shoots lasers from his eyes. Flies at light speed. Punches enemies into space. And, oh, he’s angry (I’m referring to Snyder’s “Man of Steel” here).
Basically, he is a god.
But then the latest Superman film by James Gunn portrayed a different Superman. He is a little comical. Not trying to be a god. Just trying to do the right thing – saving people.
That’s what made him likable.
Not by being perfect. But because he was relatable.
And that’s why most email marketing campaigns fail.
They are not relatable. Somehow, the marketing world has taught us to be “perfect” and have some kind of god complex when doing marketing.
Nonsense.
Your audience cannot connect with you if you try to be perfect.
They connect with brands that feel human. Those who share stories, struggles, and wins.
And this… is the first lesson in the upcoming workshop I’m hosting.
