Last week, I came across a leaked handbook for new employees in MrBeast's company.

Although the man is currently facing a lawsuit over "unsafe" work conditions and sexual harassment on a show – there are a few takeaways from the document worth sharing.

Download the handbook below:

Read on for some of my takeaways:

1 - Obssess over improvement

Data doesn't lie. People do.

MrBeast obsesses over the performance of his YouTube videos over everything else. He measures the success of each video by looking at the data.

And then tries to beat himself with every new video he uploads.

2 - The hours you work is irrelevant

A team of 5 people works on a project for a week only to hit a dead end.

A guy with experience comes in and solves it in 30 minutes.

Who is more valuable?

Does it matter that that the 5 people worked for hours and hours without sleep? At the end of the day, all companies want results, not hours.

The number of hours you work is irrelevant. Focus on solving problems.

3 - Creativity saves money

Money isn't always the answer.

Creativity is.

MrBeast gave a good example where they were planning to do a giveaway in a video.

Instead of giving away $20,000 cash, what about giving away a year's supply of doritos? Giving a year's supply of doritos would be funnier, and more worth talking about. The cost of it assuming buying 5 packs of doritos a day at $1 each, for 365 days is $1,825.

Use creativity to save money in everything.

Creativity doens't end at the art canvas. You bring creativity to business.

4 - It's your fault, not the contractor's

If you contract a piece of work out to someone (a contractor or team-member) – and they contractor didn't do it on time, who's fault it is?

It's yours.

Don't leave room for error. If you delegated work, make sure to follow-up. Have systems to check in. Call the person everyday if you have to.

Take ownership.

5 - The 3 most important YouTube metrics

There are three metrics to care about on YouTube.

  • Click Through Rate (CTR)
  • Average View Duration (AVD)
  • Average View Percentage (AVP)

CTR is how many people see a thumbnail and decide to click on it. Titles will make a whole world of difference. For example: "I Spent 50 Hours in My Garden" is terrible. But you'd click "I Spent 50 Hours in Chilli Sauce".

The more intriguing and more extreme, the better.

Next, average view duration. Obsess over getting people engaged in the first minute. Then create a re-engage mechanism in your video every 3 minutes to keep people watching.

MrBeast studies his YouTube data - a lot.

Here's some retention graphs that you can study – right now! Go see the graphs of your videos on YouTube or even Facebook and see what they look like.

6 - Speed is king

Traditional media makes one or two movies a year. MrBeast makes one video a week.

Sure, the business model of Hollywood films and YouTube videos is different. But trends change. People pay attention to different things now.

If you're producing for the web, you can't follow the speed of traditional media. There's no flexibility and the long lead times can't adapt to trends.

Be nimble.

Also the standard speed is for chumps. There's no speed limit to whatever you're doing with your marketing or business.
