I was on a call with a client when they asked, “What kind of content should we post on our IG?”

This client already had a decent following. But now they wanted conversions. So the past months, they switched into full-on hard-sell mode. 

Every post was about benefits and “join now”, “click now”, “call us now.”

Basically, every post was a pitch.

I said what they didn’t want to hear. “To me, your social media feels like a sales page. Honestly, it feels a little annoying.”

Let’s be real. When’s the last time you enjoyed a salesy reel? 

To prove my point, I shared my Gmail inbox.

Take a look. 

Maybe you don’t have 75,000 emails like me. But I’ll bet one thing… 

You’re not going to open most of them. 

Why? Because you intuitively already know those emails are trying to sell you something.

“Your social media profile kinda feels like that right now. Like Gmail’s promotions.”

On the flip side, what kind of emails do you open? 

Easy. The ones that feel like a friend sent them. Personal, human, and unexpected. 

That’s the kind of content people want to engage with.
