Recently, I was approached by an insurance agent at a clinic. My first instinct was, "Ughh, go away scammy insurance scum"...

Somehow, this person was incredibly genuine. He asked about my kids, shared his experiences, listened as I shared my goals, and we found shared interests. Ohh, he's rubbing on me. I started to like him. I felt like referring him to others.

Marketing is about stories and connection.

We like to think that all we need are cold, hard facts. Just give me the facts! I don't want to be sold to.

But that's not how it works.

Telling people you sell "cold dead fish on rice", isn't going to build a line in front of your restaurant. A smarter move is to share stories of how the restaurant came about, the chef's roots, and why it's their mission to create the ultimate sushi experience.

People buy stories and meaning.
