Ok, seriously... will it take our jobs?

Quick note. This entire post is written by a human, named Reuben. Not ChatGPT. Daily CMO will always be vetted by a human, now and forever.

Just in case you were wondering. 😊
Listen to the Daily CMO podcast discussion on using ChatGPT for Marketing.

What the deuce is AI?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a type of technology that can help us – marketers, do our jobs better. ChatGPT is a chatbot built on OpenAI's GPT-3 language models/

AI has transformed lots of industries like healthcare & manufacturing. The marketing industry cannot escape it.

Some marketing tasks that have been replaced:

  • Data analysis. (Seen 'Analytics Intelligence' when you logged into Google Analytics?)
  • Ad targeting.
  • Customer segmentation.
  • Writing.

So, will AI replace marketers?

Well to answer that, let's see what AI cannot do in marketing.

What AI cannot do.

AI is light years better than us humans at analyzing large data sets. But it doesn't have what we have.

  • AI cannot understand the nuances of human behavior.
  • It cannot understand emotions.
  • It cannot design a new brand's identity.
  • It cannot craft a compelling message, based on emotions.

AI falls short when it comes to the creative & emotional aspects – which is what marketing is.

No bueno... AI.

So the answer is AI will not replace marketers. It will though, replace mediocre marketers.

Marketing is not hitting people with more messages, more social media posts or ads.

Marketing is about creating a relationship with your customers – with trust, brand loyalty, and empathy.

AI does not have the ability to replicate human empathy and emotional intelligence.

Work with AI.

AI tools like ChatGPT free marketers from repetitive and mundane tasks. This allows you to focus on developing creative strategies and building better relationships with customers.

AI is not a replacement for marketers. It's a tool.

And it's an exciting time. Because AI will challenge you to be more creative and to do better work.

If your work is not better than AI, then be worried.

But for the rest of us, you will always be needed.
