You swiped on a girl, and she swipes back! Yay!
You arrange a date. You see her in person. Wow – she's the most beautiful thing you've ever seen. You tell yourself this is the woman you gonna marry.
So you quickly get down on one knee and say the magical 4 words... "Would you marry...
No? Yeah, it doesn't work like that.
Getting customers is like that. Nobody becomes a customer straightaway after seeing your ad.
Yet, businesses still continue to run ads like this to strangers...
There are so many businesses selling white shirts. H&M, Zalora, Oxwhite... Why buy from you?
Getting customers is like getting married.
Step 1 - Find a way to introduce yourself.
When a girl goes on a date with you, she risks very little – except maybe time and some money.
It's the same in business. That is why at one time, Oxwhite sold shirts for RM0.99. Extremely low-risk for customers. But by doing that, they introduced themselves to the world.
Step 2 - Build relationship.
Once you get customers in, you want to build a long-term relationship. Not a one-night stand.
Your customers can actually come back to buy more from you – provided your products or services solve their problems.
Your business exists to solve problems, right?
But the truth is every solution you provide also creates new problems.
A car solves the problem of going from one place to another. But when you buy a car, new problems arise. You now need petrol. You need insurance. You need to service the car.
You get the idea.
When you sell an introductory product, you will also create new problems which become opportunities which you can also provide solutions for. And that my friends – is how you take people from spending RM0.99 with you, to spending RM990 with you.
Just ask anyone who's an Oxwhite fanboy. Why do you think Oxwhite sells more than white shirts now?

One reason communities don't grow is because the community owner does ALL the talking. The others just shut up and listen.
